Can I file with Aflac AND Unum for disability?

I currently pay for Aflac plan that pays disability after 7 day elimation period. My employer pays for Unum which does the same thing. Doesn't seem right to file with both, but at the same time, both policies are there and payed for. If not, which one's better? (Generally speaking, of course).

Questions are regarding short-term disability. Was out of work, but am back for now. But will be going out again shortly.

Assuming you meet the elimination period, you may file with both. Not that you will collect from both because as Larry said, there could be caught in the coordination of benefit provision on either policy. However, if you qualify for both but only one will pay, take the AFLAC since those benefits will be tax-free (you paid the premium). You need to read both of your policies to see what the other income sources are and how the coordination works.

I am really glad to be a part of this community where we can get useful information about which policy to choose. Even I was in dilemma in choosing best plan for short term disability I too had two options in front of me ALFAC and Unum but as said in the post both the policy does same thing, as said by david I will read both of the policy thoroughly and will go for any one since even if I qualify for both I will be getting paid by one.
